LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Construction on the new Lubbock County Jail continues and that's delaying its opening; and the reason happens to be the most vital part of the hi-tech jail.
The 95 million dollar project was expected to be complete this month, but crews are still checking the electronic and security systems for the state of the art facility. Chief Deputy Kelly Rowe says they don't have an exact date just yet, but believes the jail will open in late summer or early fall.
The 400,000 square foot facility will be able to house more than 1500 inmates and is gaining national attention for its revolutionary construction.
