Lubbock Woman Rescued From Sinking SUV

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A Lubbock woman is now out of the hospital after she drove her SUV into a playa lake Wednesday morning.

Police tell NewsChannel 11 a medical condition caused 46-year-old Melinda Pickering to jump the curb at Charles Guy Park and land in the water just after 10 a.m. Investigators tell us Pickering was headed north on Memphis, when her vehicle jumped the curb, and headed all the way across the park and into the playa lake. It's quite a distance.

Police dash cam cameras captured the water rescue. When first responders arrived, they say Pickering was unresponsive. Lubbock police officers Brent Hackett and Gus Imbarlina, along with paramedic Chad Curry, swam out to Pickering's SUV as it began to sink into the lake. They had to bust out a window in order to get inside. That equalized the pressure, and allowed them to free Pickering and take her to the shore.

Again, Pickering was treated and released from University Medical Center.
