The HeadBlade: Does It Work?

Posted:

LUBBOCK & TYLER, TX (KCBD & KLTV) - The makers of the Headblade call it the ultimate head shaving razor. It caught the attention of Time Magazine for its unique design. We caught KLTV 7 photographer, Arthur Clayborn between head shaves and he helped us test it out.

It's an interesting looking device, a razor you wear like a ring. On the top, there's a place for your finger. On the backside, the pad. The instructions say to keep the pad in contact with your head during the entire shave.

Arthur applied some hot water and the special HeadSlick shaving cream made by HeadBlade and put the ring on his middle finger between the first and second knuckle. The instructions call for long smooth strokes, again with the pad staying in contact with the head the whole time. "It's so light," says Arthur.

He said it felt like he was holding nothing in his hand. The sensation was like wiping his hand across his head. "With a regular razor, I'm used to having to apply a little pressure so you can actually feel it when drags across your head. But this here, you don't feel any pressure." To shave the other side, you switch hands to the side you're about to shave.

For a right handed person, like Arthur, the switch to southpaw, isn't quite as comfortable. Thus far, Arthur's been going with the grain of hair growth, but the makers say it's okay to go back the other way too. We counted two or three nicks, but Arthur says he gets that with a regular razor too. And there was one thing he did not get this time. "Usually when I cut my hair with a razor, as soon as I finish, I'm breaking out in bumps on the top of my head," he says. "I usually have to go apply alcohol afterward. Well, with this one right here, after I finish, no bumps on top of my head and no break out." Arthur credits the fact that he didn't have to push as hard while shaving with this device.

He says it will take some time to get used to it, but he likes it. "Does It Work?" We give it a "yes!"
