AUSTIN, TX (KCBD) - We have some great news for families who are struggling with the challenge of high college tuition costs. A state senator from the metroplex proposes limiting tuition increases to no more than five percent each year.
Senator Florence Shapiro of Plano has already proposed one form of tuition freeze. Her previous proposal would freeze an incoming freshman's tuition for four years. This new idea would be an additional restriction on tuition hikes.
"For example, while the 2011 freshman class pays one rate all four years, the 2012 freshman class can only be charged up to five percent more than the previous class," says Shapiro.
