LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock residents took a stand against child abuse with the second annual Stand Up For Kids awareness event. Participants stood for an hour at Miller Park holding up signs to represent each abused child helped by the Children's Advocacy Center of the South Plains last year.
"We made 1,081 signs. Each of the signs stands for 1 particular child, so for instance they say, I'm standing for victim number or child number 1,062. A 13-year-old girl," said organizer Carmen Aguirre.
Organizers say the Lubbock area has the second most child abuse cases per capita in the state of Texas, and they hope raising awareness will help to change that.
