The Lubbock City Council took a trip to the Lubbock Police Department Thursday afternoon. The council took a tour of the Emergency Operations Center in the basement of the LPD. They honored 38 year veteran of the EOC, William Payne with a special plaque. Payne has served the City of Lubbock since before the tornado of 1970.

The Lubbock Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is encouraging kids to Step-Up to Success. It's a program designed to motivate at risk students to graduate high school and go on to college. The chamber held the one day event Thursday for 9th grade students from several area schools. The ultimate goal is to reduce the drop out rate.
