LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A new concern for young people who are thick around the middle.
After studying nearly 80,000 men and women in Sweden, researchers at Beth Israel Medical Center found that in young women, even if their weight was normal, a little belly bulge gave them a 15 percent increased risk for heart failure. In young men, the risk came when their overall weight was above average.
The risk went down for everybody as they got older, indicating that it's normal to gain some weight as we age. But the concern reaffirms the theory that the apple figure is linked to heart trouble, even in women who appear to be normal weight.
