Texas Tech and UT have one of the most heated rivalries going in the state, and no one can agree more than Texas Tech Running Back Coach, Art Briles. "My son, Kendall plays for UT and as the games have gotten closer, that's become a further distance from me," says coach Briles.
"It was difficult probably for him and me, but this is the place I felt like I needed to go and I'd be most successful at and he's supported me 100%," says Kendall Briles, former Frenship player who plays for Texas.
While Kendall now lives in Austin, he still remembers his football days with the Frenship Tigers and the bonds he made with teammates like David Thomas. "Kendall was a quarterback his senior year, and David was a tight end. They went to state semi-finals and had one of the best seasons Frenship ever had," says John Thomas, David's dad.
Now Kendall and David have gone from being Tigers to Longhorns. David's dad, Frenship ISD Superintendent John Thomas, says despite the family's Red Raider roots, he is a father first. "I always want to see Texas Tech do well, but of course this week I want to see David do well," he says.
As for the Briles family, it will be coach and not dad on game day. "He's going to have a white jersey, we got a black jersey. So it'll be business as usual," says coach Briles.
Both David and Kendall have the same numbers at UT they had at Frenship High School.
