Food for Thought Report 4.9

Posted:

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - This downtown hot spot is once again brewing up perfection.

Stein's Coffee & Sandwiches at 1406 Ave. Q is known for its eclectic flare, healthy sandwiches and delicious wraps. Now, you can add another top performer to that as well.

The only other place whipping up the perfect recipe this week is the snack bar inside Target at 7302 University.

Here is a complete list of the restaurants and their violations for the week ending on 4/9/09.

Now to our only low performer. Inspectors found eight critical violations at MLK Burger at 107 Beech Ave.

  • Sliced tomatoes and cheese in a cooling unit were above the safe cold temperature of 41 degrees.
  • The cooling unit did not have a thermometer.
  • Employees were handling food without gloves.
  • Food debris was in the hand sink.
  • There were no paper towels at a hand sink.
  • A drink with the lid buried in ice was in the ice machine.
  • The microwave was dirty.
  • The report states, "due to the number of violations there is a lack of food safety knowledge."

The owner tells us his manager was out sick at the time of the inspection, but food safety is always their top priority. He tells us that the inspector returned a few days later and all violations had been corrected.

According to the report most were corrected during the initial inspection.
