Location for new animal shelter decided

LUBBOCK TX, (KCBD) - Mackenzie Park will be the new location for Lubbock's animal shelter.  The city council voted in favor of the Mackenzie Park location in a five to two vote. Those against the location were Mayor Tom Martin and Councilman John Leonard.

Currently the cost for the new animal shelter is set at 6-million dollars.  Councilman Todd Klein says a little less than three and a half million dollars is currently set aside for the shelter. "I don't want to compromise the quality of the water resistant, disease resistant materials, the sound baffeling all of those acoustic aspects which in the long term will make that a longer lived facility."

Councilman Klein says phasing could be an option to pay for the shelter.
