Eco-friendly Girl Scout building first of its kind in West Texas

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) Local girl scouts are taking a step to preserve the environment. At Camp Rio Blanco, near Crosbyton, a new Environmental Education Center is being built at the campgrounds, but this isn't like the other camp buildings. The eco-friendly center is made of compressed mud blocks, and will be completely green when finished. It's the first of its kind in West Texas. The Lubbock Girl Scout chapter hopes to use the building as a learning tool.

"We'll teach the kids different aspects how the building was built, what was used to build it, and how to protect Earth and promote awareness," says Summer Littlejohn with Girl Scouts of Texas.

Earth Co. Building Systems is building the house for free, and is one of many other companies donating the materials.
