LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock's countywide alcohol election is less than a month away. This week, supporters and the opposition meet to debate this issue in an open forum.
Everyone is invited to attend, but you do need to reserve your seat and time is running out. The group Lubbock Area Republican Women is hosting the debate. Representatives from both Lubbock County Wins, the group supporting expanded alcohol sales, and members from Truth About Alcohol Sales, the group against expanded alcohol sales will be on hand. NewsChannel 11's Karin McCay will moderate the debate.
Organizers say it's an opportunity for voters to listen to both sides equally, weigh the pros and cons, and then decide what to do. "Our organization, Lubbock Area Republican Women, wanted to present an opportunity to the citizen of our county to be able to explore this important issue in a conservative environment," Marta Rosas said.
The debate is Thursday at The Lubbock Club. It starts at 6:30 p.m. and is expected to last until 8 p.m. Everyone is invited, but you do need to reserve your seat, and that deadline is Tuesday at 5 p.m.
The cost is $20 per person for those who aren't members of LARW. That price also includes dinner. You can make reservations by phone at (806) 765-9022 or by e-mail.
If you can't make it out to the debate, you don't have to miss it. NewsChannel 11 will stream the entire forum live here on our web site, kcbd.com.
Early voting starts April 27th and lasts through May 5th. The election is May 9th.
