A verdict on the Atkins Diet that you can lose weight eating lots of beef, even eggs fried in lots of butter with bacon, as long as you cut back on sugar, bread and other carbohydrates.
"It is intriguing information, but we need more information. The Atkins Diet clearly can allow one to lose weight," Dr. Robert Bonow, President of the American Heart Association.
The study by Duke University followed 120 volunteers for six months. Half on the Heart Associations low fat diet, the other half on the Atkins plan, supplemented by fish oil tablets and lots of fish in the diet. Those on the Atkins Diet lost an average oe 31 pounds compared to 20 on the heart diet. In terms of health, the Atkins Diet even lowered triglycerides, the unhealthy fat in the blood more so than those on the heart diet. More study is still underway.
