LUBBOCK, TEXAS (AP) - Texas Tech coach Mike Leach says he has indefinitely suspended defensive end McKinner Dixon for academic reasons.
Dixon had nine sacks last season, the most among returning players after Brandon Williams declared for the NFL draft. Williams had 13 sacks a year ago.
Leach announced the suspension Monday, and said he considered it unlikely that Dixon, a senior, would play this year.
School spokesman Chris Cook confirmed the suspension to The Associated Press.
The 6-foot-3, 250-pound Dixon played his freshman season at Texas Tech in 2005 before academic problems led to a redshirt year followed by a season at Cisco Junior College in 2007.
