Cody Ramirez found guilty of aggravated assault of public servant - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

LUBBOCK, TEXAS (KCBD) - It took a Lubbock jury less than an hour to find a Lubbock teen guilty  in the aggravated assault of a public servant.

Cody Ramirez shot at Lubbock police during a 2006 robbery. He was 16-years-old in December 2006 when he and an accomplice allegedly robbed Texas Games on the 1600 block of 19th street.  His lawyer says Ramirez robbed the business and shot at police because his uncle threatened to kill him.

His uncle is Richard Ramirez, who is serving a life sentence in connection with the murders of Boom-Boom Cabaret employees, Anthony Lopez and Gilbert Victor, in October 2006. Wednesday morning, he was called to testify in his nephew's trial.

The elder Ramirez testified that he did threaten to kill Cody, if he did not participate in the robbery. He also testified that he gave Cody a gun, with instructions to fire at police to make his getaway.

The sentencing phase of this trial is now underway. Cody Ramirez could face between 5 to 99 years or life in prison. The trial is expected to wrap up Thursday.
