LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Special Olympics Texas hosted its annual spring games on Saturday. Nearly 300 athletes gathered at the Estacado High School track.
"Our athletes compete year round in different sports," said Gayle Stanford. "Today they're actually doing their track and field events."
Participant Samantha Flores competed in the softball throw and a track event. "I ran, celebrated. I had a lot of fun," said Flores.
The privately funded, non-profit organization, provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for both children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
More than 32,000 athletes across Texas participate.
