Rear-facing car seats the safest

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - New parents know the safest way for an infant to ride in a car is in a car seat and facing to the rear.  Now, the American Academy of Pediatrics wants to expand that first year guideline so babies will ride that way even longer.

TTUHSC pediatrician Amy Thompson, said Tuesday on HealthWise at 5, "We're encouraging parents to keep them rear facing until they're two years of age...In that 12 month to 24 month range, we've shown that they're five times safer in rear facing car seats".  Dr. Thompson says if you want your car seat checked to make sure it is installed properly, take it to the fire department or police station.
