Well, NewsChannel 11 got its hands slapped by a pediatrician we've long admired. After Karin McCay's story about junk food improving test scores, Dr. Glenn Boris called to say he was appalled. And now that we think about it, we think, what were we thinking?
Researchers at the University of Florida say they studied 23 school districts and found a connection between junk at lunch and a boost in short term learning, but Dr. Boris brought to our attention that with the glaring problem of overweight kids today, why would anybody give students a free ticket to eat junk for a short term learning advantage, when the long term disadvantage is kids today are suffering with obesity and other major health problems more than ever. So, Dr. Boris, your point was well taken.
