LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A warning to older men, take a good look at your back for any irregular moles that could possible be melanoma. Even better, ask a physician to take a look. When it comes to finding melanoma, a survey in the Archives of Dermatology finds that doctors are the ones who most often find melanoma on men over age 65.
The study shows that deadly skin cancer is commonly found on men's backs, especially if they have a history of irregular looking moles. Many of the men surveyed were not aware of their risk for skin cancer, and less than half of them said they had even looked at their backs to watch for irregular moles.
Men over age 40 account for more than half of all melanoma deaths in the U.S. It is very important for everybody, especially older men to take a look at your back.
