LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A former Lubbock school teacher is learning a lesson about theft.

Janie Esparza, 60, was sentenced Friday in Lubbock federal court after pleading guilty to felony theft in January. Prosecutors say she took money from the LISD's English as a Second Language program for her personal use.

Esparza' sentence includes repaying the $13,000 she took plus a $100 fine. She will also be subject to community service and five years probation.
