New procedure to help with excessive sweating

Posted:

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - There is encouraging news for those who worry that they sweat too much, a new procedure may offer a cure without surgery.  It's called the Vaser Ultrasound and it's described as minimally invasive because only a probe is inserted through a small incision in the skin.

Plastic surgeon, Dr. Pearlman Hicks, M.D., says, "The sound waves from the Vaser which is an ultrasonic probe, sends sound waves from the tip of the probe underneath the skin and these sound waves actually destroy the sweat glands.  I think this is a great procedure because there's very little down time, the risks are not great.  We can do this under local anesthesia or general anesthesia."

Dr. Hicks says the procedure isn't cheap, costing several thousand dollars.  Insurance does not cover it yet, but maybe in the future.  Dr. Hicks adds that no major side effects have been reported.
