LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Thirty-three years ago the nation faced a Swine Flu panic in 1976.
Some people around West Texas still remember that scare, like Denise Payne at Payne Pharmacy in Floydada. She says she remembers when Texas Tech opened up emergency clinics to treat the infected. It was a time when people's nerves were tested because, in this country, more people died from their bodies reaction to the vaccine than from the Swine Flu itself.
In all, there were 25 deaths in the U.S. back in 1976, but only one death was confirmed to be from the Swine Flu virus itself.
