Morrison Recall Petition Due Wednesday

Edward Estrada needs 1,700 signatures by 5:00 PM Wednesday to make his recall petition valid. Estrada and volunteers have spent the last 30 days gathering signatures of people who want councilman Frank Morrison out of office. So, how close is Mr. Estrada to meeting his goal?

Petitioner Edward Estrada is driving around town picking up petitions and he is putting more than just his car in gear. "This one has seven signatures," he said as he looked at one petition he picked up from one house.

"I'm picking up the petition," he told the husband of a volunteer. "They have to be turned into the city office by five o'clock tomorrow (11/27)," said Estrada.

"Obviously, I would have liked to see well over 2,000 signatures. As it is, it's going to be close," he said. Estrada has counted more than 900 signatures. Day after day, minute after minute, Estrada says it was not easy for him and his 16 volunteers to collect. "I've lost a lot of sleep in the last month," he says.

Even if Estrada does not meet 1,700 needed signatures by 5 p.m. Wednesday, he says it has been well worth the work and does not feel like he has lost anything, but maybe gained the respect of city hall. "People are watching, people care, about council members actions, in-actions," said Estrada.

Surprising, councilman Morrison supports Estrada's efforts. Morrison says he has plans to move back to district four before Christmas, which is exactly what prompted Estrada's petition in the first place. Estrada needs about 800 more signatures by Wednesday.

For more information about the petition, you can call Edward Estrada at (806) 748-5569.
