Inspectors had more than 40 food establishments on their agenda this week. That includes schools, local supermarkets, a popular pizza place and a barbecue joint.

We start with the schools. Roosevelt High School gets zero critical violations making them a Food for Thought Top Performer. Then it is on to Roosevelt Elementary where there was one critical violation. The internal temperature of some hamburgers in a food warmer was 130 degrees--hot foods should be kept at a minimum of 140 degrees. The violation was corrected on site.

Now for our Top Performing restaurants beginning with the Frenchman Inn at 4409 19th Street. This cozy restaurant brings in a perfect score, making them a Food for Thought Top Performer. Then it's on to a place that earns their second Top Performance this time--Lela's Fine Foods to go at 4411 19th Street gets zero critical violations. Papa John's at 5206 82nd Street is next with a perfect score, and the United Supermarket at 2701 82nd Street gets two perfect scores--one in the bakery and one in the meat and fish department.

Now for out only Low Performer this time. Powell BBQ at 7729 West 19th Street is where four critical violations were found.

  • The internal temperature of turkey legs and barbecue inside a food warmer was 110 degrees. Hot foods must be kept at a minimum of 140 degrees or hotter.
  • There were improper dates on potentially hazardous ready to eat foods.
  • The kitchen hand sink was out of hand towels.
  • A cutting board, food tray and food preparation table were soiled.

The Manager at Powell BBQ told us all violations have been corrected and they are ready to go. The report also states that all critical violations were corrected on site.
