Child Endangerment Trial: CPS describes filth and conditions of Gloria Ramirez's home

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Moldy food and appliances stuffed with trash... are among the filthy details revealed in the first day of testimony against Gloria Ramirez.

Ramirez, 29, is charged with 11 counts of child endangerment. She was four months pregnant when she suffered a miscarriage in 2007. She allegedly placed the fetus inside a baby wipes container, and stored it in her refrigerator. She got the attention of the Lubbock Police Department, when her husband contacted a local funeral home inquiring about a tiny casket.

When officials arrived to investigate, they found a filthy rat infested home, with piles of soiled diapers and walls full of spider webs.

During trial Tuesday morning, a case worker with Child Protective Services testified that there trash was found everywhere, even stuffed inside the family's oven and washing machine. In fact, there was no clear path to walk from room to room. Investigators also found rodent droppings throughout the home, and an old refrigerator bound together with duct tape.

CPS also said the family slept on dark soiled mattresses without bed sheets, or pillows. She also said a griddle and cleaning supplies were not put away, and left where children could easily get to them.

At that time, all children were removed from the home, but Ramirez has since given birth to twins. And she is currently expecting a tenth child.

Ramirez's husband, Anthony Moya faces the same charges. His trial is expected to start later this month.

NewsChannel 11 is at the trial and will bring you the latest tonight at 5, 6 and 10.
