Cinco de Mayo celebration of Mexican victory - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - May 5th is the day that many people from Mexico and Americans of Mexican descent celebrate the 1862 victory of the Mexican army over the French. 

That victory very well might have prevented a French invasion into the southern U.S. during the American Civil War. An estimated 10 thousand or more here in Lubbock celebrated a few days early at the fairgrounds.
