LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A Georgia man has become the first person in the country to undergo a double hand transplant. Fifty-seven year old Jeff Kepner is in stable condition Tuesday after undergoing the 20-hour surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Kepner, who is a native of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and lives in Augusta, Georgia, lost his hands and feet to a bacterial infection 10 years ago.
Before going into surgery Kepner said he was looking forward to holding his 13-year old daughter for the first time since she was three.
