Iraq's official news agency says U.S. and British warplanes attacked a "civilian and services" installation in northern Iraq, killing one civilian. The news agency quotes a military spokesman as saying the attack occurred at a site 250 miles north of Baghdad. The agency says Iraqi air defense units fired at the attacking planes, forcing them to return to their bases in Turkey. No comment was immediately available from the U.S. military. The attacks come as United Nations weapons inspectors search Iraqi installations for evidence of Iraq's suspected weapons of mass destruction. Copyright 2002 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
