LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Frenship superintendent, John Thomas, was named Executive Director of Region 18 Education Service Center. He will replace Charles Greenawalt, who is retiring after six years at Region 18.

Thomas announced his retirement from Frenship ISD, back in February. He has served public education for 32 years, beginning his career in 1977 as a teacher/coach and counselor in Dimmitt and then middle school principal in Lamesa.  His first superintendent job was at Ralls before being named assistant superintendent for Frenship in 1997.  He took over the reigns as Frenship superintendent in March 2001 and has served in that capacity for the past eight years.

Thomas will assume responsibilities in the Midland/Odessa region on July 1, 2009. He will remain at Frenship ISD through the end of the current school year.

A replacement is expected to be named by the Frenship school board by the end of May.
