LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - An arrest warrant reveals new details about an aggravated sexual assault in Lubbock County. Jarrod Alvarado, 20 remained jailed for the assault Wednesday evening. Authorities issued a warrant for his arrest on Tuesday.
The probable cause affidavit reveals a Lubbock County Sheriff's Deputy discovered the victim's vehicle around 6:00 a.m. on March 1st. The deputy was on his way to work when he noticed the car, stopped in the northbound lane of F.M. 252-28, facing south.
He checked on the driver, and found the 19-year-old, female victim passed out, nude from the waist down, with severe injuries to her face. Tuesday, an analyst from the Department of Public Safety notified investigators that DNA evidence collected from the vehicle matched a sample taken from Alvarado.
It turns out Alvarado was already in the Lubbock County Jail, charged with burglary, credit card abuse, and fraud. "The best we can conclude, this would have been considered a crime of opportunity, if you will, where the suspect, we believe, took advantage of this particular situation and committed the offense," Lubbock County Sheriff's Major Don Carter said.
This case now heads to a grand jury. Alvarado faces five to 99-years in prison if convicted.
