AUSTIN & LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Former Lubbock resident Lamar Beckworth is now the interim director of the Texas Department of Public Safety.  This comes after a Wednesday emergency meeting of the Texas Public Safety Commission.

Beckworth was a sergeant based in Brownfield and then later he became the Major in charge of the Lubbock region for nine years.  He makes history, as he becomes the first African American colonel in charge of the Texas Department of Public Safety.
