LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock was changed forever on May 11th - 39 years ago.
On May 11, 1970, the city was hit by an F5 tornado. It ripped through Lubbock around 9:50 p.m. Twenty-six people died, more than 500 were injured, and another 1800 people were left homeless. The 1970 twister caused 150 million dollars in damage, and to this day still ranks as the fourth costliest tornado in U.S. history.
