Lubbock Woman Remains in Critical Condition

In a follow up to a story NewsChannel 11 brought you Sunday night, a 19-year-old Lubbock woman remains in very critical condition. Police say Shassidy Harris' step-father shot her in the stomach early Sunday morning.

It happened inside their house on East Cornell St. Police say 30 year-old Jesse Coe Smith shot his step-daughter following an argument. That's when Smith's wife, Vanessa, ran next door to call police. "During the time she was on the phone, about three minutes into the phone call, Jesse came up and handed my grandfather a magazine, he had the gun, kept a bullet, stepped back, and shot himself," said Anthwon Broussard, a neighbor.

As of Monday night, Shassidy Harris was at Covenant Medical Center. Police spokesman Bill Morgan says she has received several blood transfusions, but continues to have severe internal bleeding.
