FDA sends Cheerios a warning letter

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Food and Drug Administration says the maker of Cheerios, General Mills, has gone too far in claiming that Cheerios can lower your cholesterol by 4% in just six weeks. That's what it says on the box and now the FDA has sent a warning letter to cheerios about it.

According to government rules, the claim on the box throws Cheerios into the category of a drug, not cereal. The government timing is somewhat odd, though, since that claim has been on boxes of Cheerios for more than two years.
