LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - PETA or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals ratchets up its campaign against Texas Tech HSC. PETA claims the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center uses cats to train medical students on the use of anesthesia. PETA claims this is animal cruelty, and it had complained previously to university officials.
This week PETA took its complaint to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Health Sciences Center has said in the past that the cats are anesthetized during the procedures and don't feel any pain.
