LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Three deadly shootings in six days. The latest came late Tuesday night, when someone shot and killed Aldo Cervantes, 23. Witnesses say a group of suspects robbed Cervantes and another man at a home near 22nd Street and Juneau Avenue around 11:30 p.m., and then opened fire.
Now, investigators say Cervantes' death is related to more deadly shootings, happening Thursday and Friday on East 8th Street and East Rice Street. Authorities did not release how the shootings are connected, but they did tell NewsChannel 11 they need to question Tyrone Robinson, 31, who they believe has information on all three incidents.
"People need to realize what they're doing, and they need to be stopped, and I hope they do capture these people," Nora Hernandez said. She considered Cervantes like a son. "They killed him for no reason, for no reason, there was no reason for this," Hernandez said.
Hernandez says Cervantes was with her son, Raul Perez, running an errand, when someone tried to break into Perez's home at 22nd Street. Hernandez says Perez's wife was home at the time with several children. She called police and her husband.
When Perez and Cervantes arrived back home, Hernandez says the suspects robbed them and threw them on the ground. Perez got away, but the suspects shot and killed Cervantes. Right now, authorities have not released a reason why. "We're going to miss him terribly. I hate the way he left, but there's nothing we can do. He's gone, and I just want these people caught before they hurt somebody else," Hernandez said.
"They have been working nearly around the clock since the first one, and they've made a great deal of progress," Lubbock Police Captain Greg Stevens said. Lubbock Police Detectives now believe Cervantes' death is connected to Thursday's deadly shooting near East 8th Street and Walnut Avenue that killed Angela Holt, 36, and seriously injured Trent Johnson, 34.
They also believe it's connected to Friday's deadly shooting near East Rice and North Ivory that killed Daniel Wilbon, 23. Investigators want to question Robinson about the shootings. He's already wanted for aggravated assault in connection to a shooting in February. "Based upon that incident, we do consider him to be armed and extremely dangerous," Stevens said.
Authorities believe Robinson is still in the Lubbock area, and they say they're still searching for other possible suspects. If you know how to find Robinson, or if you know anything about these shootings that could help investigators, call Crime Line at (806) 741-1000. You can remain anonymous.
