The City of Lubbock Water Utilities Department has begun the construction of a new large diameter water main along a portion of 33rd Street to replace aging infrastructure and improve the reliability of water distribution. This project will affect some Lubbock residents' access to residential areas since the new water main will be buried within the City of Lubbock street rights-of-way. Also, 33rd Street in the area of construction will be barricaded daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Affected residents have been notified that they will not have access to their driveways between these hours of the day.
Also, beginning the morning of Friday May 22, 2009, through the evening of Saturday, May 23, 2009, all vehicles need to be moved between Gary Avenue and Elgin Avenue need to be moved during construction hours (8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) to allow construction crews and equipment to install the water main. Utility Contractors of America, Ltd. (UCA) and the City of Lubbock ask that residents take every precaution while traveling in and around the construction area.
The City of Lubbock Water Utilities Department asks that if affected residents have any special needs or disabilities, please contact Utility Contractors of America to arrange for specific accommodations.
