Officer Released from Hospital

A weekend accident leaves a teenage girl dead and three others injured, including a Lubbock Police officer. Police say that a 41 year-old woman, along with her 12 year-old son and 15 year-old daughter, were traveling east on Parkway Drive around 6:30 Saturday evening.

The mother failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic and made a quick left turn onto MLK. A police car heading west on Parkway hit the passenger side of the vehicle, causing officer Travis Riddle's car to spin 180 degrees.

The woman and her son are in critical, but stable condition at University Medical Center. The 15 year-old girl died at UMC. Police believe the family was not wearing seat belts. The 29-year-old officer was treated and released.
