A registered sex offender may be living next door to you, and you may not even know it. That's what happened to Lisa Caldwell. For the past 16 years, she's lived on 52nd St. with her husband and two daughters. On Monday she found out her next door neighbor was a sex offender.
Caldwell contacted the Lubbock Police Department and they say it's not their responsibility to notify the public. "I just don't understand why they wouldn't notify us. I think they should so us and everyone else could take precaution and be aware of what's going on," says Caldwell.
Officer Bill Casey, with the neighborhood services unit says they do keep track of registered sex offenders, but it's up to you to check the newspaper and the internet to see if a sex offender lives in your neighborhood. You can do that by (clicking here) .
If a sex offender is considered a high risk offender, the state will notify the neighborhood by post card.
