Fatal accident kills young girl in Terry County

TERRY COUNTY, TX (KCBD) - A young girl is dead after a fatal accident in Terry County about 7:30 a.m. Friday morning.

The accident happened at FM 1698 and CR 515 near Brownfield when DPS troopers say driver Brenda Rodriguez failed to stop at a stop sign. Her Chevy Corsica hit a Ford F-150 truck.

Rodriguez had 5 children in the car with her ranging in age from 5 to 12 years old. AeroCare transported Rodriguez's daughter, 5-year-old Natalie Rodriguez, to Covenant Lakeside where she was pronounced dead.

DPS says the child was not wearing a seatbelt, and asks drivers to please be aware when theyre on the road. "Just the alertness of each and every driver out there on the highway. We have a problem with what we call complacency. Our minds are on different things. Just keep your mind on the driving," said DPS Trooper Wanda Raney.

The driver of the truck was not injured, and DPS says there were no other serious injuries.
