Montelongo family hosts 7th annual pool party

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - For the 7th year in a row, Montelongo's Restaurant hosted a free end of school swim party.

The event was held in Rogers Park, at the Montelongo Pool, named for local businesswoman, Petrita Montelongo.

"We want to give back to the community," said Montelongo's grandson. "She always gave to the community, so we want to continue what she started here in the Arnett Benson area and in Lubbock."

Children went swimming, played games, learned about summer programs, and ate free hot dogs, ice cream and many other treats.

Petrita Montelongo opened Montelongo's restaurant in 1972, and ran the business until she was 89. And her family continues to run the business to this day.
