LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Saturday will mark the 65th anniversary of D-Day, and the Silent Wings Museum will commemorate D-Day with two days of events, including the World War II Airborne Demonstration team.
On June 6, 1944 American and United Kingdom troops invaded Normandy, France by sea and air with the largest military invasion force ever assembled. With success on D-Day the Allies were able to secure beachfront positions and a staging point for liberating Western Europe and pushing towards Berlin, Germany.
The events are free to the public on both days with a reception on Saturday. The visitors will have the opportunity to ride on an authentic WWII-era C-47 with the Airborne Demonstration Team.
The events began at 10:00 a.m. Friday morning and will continue until 5:00 p.m., and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
The Silent Wings Museum is located at 6202 N. I-27 in Lubbock.
