LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Texas Tech Chancellor Kent Hance says he's ready for Tech to become the newest Tier One university in Texas. Sunday night the Texas Legislature approved House Bill 51, which creates funding pools and incentives for emerging research universities to become Tier One schools.
"We've realized with this legislation passing that we have a chance to achieve what is called Tier One status as a research university. House Bill 51 sets up a method that we can become a Tier One research university," said Hance.
It must now be approved by Governor Rick Perry. The University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M, and Rice are all Tier One universities.
