Researchers catch classic tornado on film

GOSHEN COUNTY, WY (KCBD) - The Vortex Two Project, which includes the Weather Channel and researchers from Texas Tech, has been going on four weeks now without a significant tornado for researchers to study until Friday.

Mother Nature gave the extensive study paydirt in rural Wyoming Friday as tornadoes started to form right in front of researchers eyes. Scientists rushed to set up their equipment as this massive supercell and tornado formed in Goshen County, a rural area north of Cheyenne, Wyoming.

This storm produced what researchers call a classic tornado, with high winds, massive rotation and hail. At one point, video caught a spectacular shot, looking right down the center of the tornado funnel. The super storm gave scientists the complete life cycle of a tornado on tape from beginning to end.
