Man claims IRS tried to enslave him; pleads guilty to tax evasion

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A Brownfield man fought the IRS and lost.   On Thursday Don Agnew pleaded guilty to income tax evasion.  Lubbock federal court records say he made more than $191,000 in 2006 but failed to file his taxes in time. Court records also say he claimed he was a foreign person and not subject to income tax.

In a separate court action back in 2006 he filed a lawsuit against the IRS.

In it he said, "The actions and lack of action by these officials have destroyed my ability to support myself and my family, attempted to enslave me to the U.S. and alienated the affections of my family in what amounts to an attempted genocide of my family."

Agnew will be sentenced at a later date. The statutory maximum is not more than five years in prison.

Trump's demand puts further pressure on the Justice Department, which later Sunday asked its watchdog to expand an existing probe of FBI actions, as the White House combats the threat posed by special counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing investigation.
