Make sure to re-scan your TV's and converter boxes on Friday

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - "The analog system goes away Friday. We're turning that off at midnight Thursday night Friday morning," said NewsChannel 11 General Manager Dan Jackson.

Mark your calendar to perform a channel re-scan is crucial on Friday.

"If you don't do it, you might not get all the channels, you might not get Channel 11," said Sr. Manager at Radio Shack on 50th Street.

Pollack will be walking us through how to perform a channel re-scan.

"If you're not getting decimal points, then you're not getting digital network," said Pollack.

The first and probably most important step is to turn on your TV and make sure it is on channel 3 or 4 depending on your converter box.

"Once you do that, you go into the menu of your converter box and you go over to channel and you want to go down to auto scan and once you're at auto scan, arrow over and hit select and now it's going to update and re-scan," said Pollack.

When the scan is finished Pollack said ou should be able to go through each channel 5.1, 11.1, 11.2.

But if you aren't seeing some of your favorite channels, then you may need to try again.

"Move your antenna a little bit, turn the dial a little bit, and re-scan again, it's there," said Pollack.

Another tip to keep in mind...

"You should make sure that your volume on your TV is turned up a little higher than you normally listen to it because your converter box will control the volume of your TV if the TV volume is already set," said Pollack.

And once you perform the scan on Friday, it's a good habit to get into.

"For the next couple of months you can go ahead and re-scan every month because there could be a new station coming on that you don't even know about," said Pollack.

"To help we're going to take a lot of phone calls, we probably won't be able to get to everyone right away, but we will get back to them the best thing to do in advance is to know what to do Friday morning," said Jackson.

Remember if you have satellite or cable, you are already prepared for the Big Switch.
