TTU grad & former Lubbock resident named new chairman of GM - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - General Motors has named a new chairman, and he is a familiar face to Lubbock.

Edward Whitacre, Jr. is the former Chairman and C.E.O. of AT&T. He is a Texas Tech graduate, and stayed in Lubbock after graduation to work for Southwestern Bell.  He served as chairman of the Horizon Campaign and the Tech board of regents. He also sits on the boards of Fort Worth-based Burlington-Northern Santa-Fe and Irving-based Exxon Mobil.

The interim chair, Kent Kresa, will remain in his position until the launch of the re-structured company, later this year.
