Governor Perry taken to emergency room after bike accident

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry has been released from an Austin hospital where he was treated after breaking his right collarbone tonight in a mountain biking accident near his
home.

Perry spokeswoman Allison Castle told The Associated Press tonight [Tuesday] that the governor has been released from Seton Medical Center.

She said he had a minor abrasion to his right elbow and that Perry was wearing a helmet while riding his bicycle.  She had no other details on the accident.  The accident forced the postponement of Perry's planned trips to Galveston, Corpus Christi and South Padre Island to sign bills passed by the Legislature.

Perry planned to sign bills for windstorm insurance reform and for supplemental funding for the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
