First Graders Bring Christmas Spirit to Less Fortunate

23 area first graders are hoping to bring the spirit of Christmas to some less fortunate kids. Petersburg elementary students did their Christmas shopping at Wal-Mart in Lubbock on Monday. The kids raised about $900 by selling handmade pencil pops at school for fifty cents each. They bought and wrapped the presents on Monday and will hand them out to needy kids in Petersburg on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, hundreds lined up outside the Armed Forces Reserve Center to collect toys for their tots. And inside, members of the Lady Raider basketball team helped pass out the toys, among them were Natalie Richie and Plenette Pierson. Lubbock Marines collect unwrapped toys every year to give to needy families. Students from Roosevelt High School also helped in the project.
