He says it's actually a common holiday problem. Hauling heavy shopping bags can trigger an overuse of muscles, ligaments and joints of the spine.
"It doesn't matter how good a shape you're in. It can be someone whose never had a history of back pain at all, it can be somebody that's had back pain in the past and this exacerbates their previous back problems," says Dr. Andrew Casden, an Orthopedic Surgeon.
